Mainzer Cats Pilot Study

Eugene Hartung was the artist responsible for a series of comic postcards which were popular in the 1950's and 1960's.  They featured dressed cats, kittens, dogs, and sometimes mice doing a variety of funny things.  Since he was European the images all reflect that; window boxes full of flowers for example.

The cards were published by the Alfred Mainzer company and are still in print.  However, age can be determined by where they were printed.  The oldest were printed in Switzerland by Max Kunzli and printing was then moved to Belgium.

I found the cards funny, interesting, and affordable so I accumulated about 500 of them.  You can see much of my collection at MainzerCats.com.

I thought they would make a good pilot study for our Selling Stuff System.  However, when I recently check their prices on Ebay I got the strong feeling this is not a good time to be selling them.  There are a lot of these cards for sale but they get few bids.  At one time I thought any of the oldest Kunzli cards from Switzerland was worth at least $5.00.  I think they could be purchased for a dollar or less now.

Since the cards take up little room there is little urgency in getting them sold.  I will look around for another kind of collectible to use for my first online selling activity.
