In an effort to get the selling started in an efficient way I have been visiting the bookstore looking at books on how to make a lot of money selling on Ebay. I have also gotten on the mailing lists of several "internet Guru's" who assure me Ebay is the place where I can get rich.
What really stands out is that most of them describe a process that involves finding an inexpensive source for stuff that can be sold for high margins. The same item gets sold over and over. No doubt this works, but the technique with the stuff around your house doesn't fit this model.
If you are selling the same thing over and over, you can set it all up as a template in your listing software; text, photos etc. The only thing you have to do is keep a listing(s) active and handle the after sales chores. This makes for some great efficiencies.
It's not so simple with the stuff around the house. In our case we have several thousand unique items. Many pieces of glassware and/or porcelain have similarities, but in detail they are ech unique. That means selling them on Ebay requires new pictures and a different description for each item. That does NOT scale well. In fact, it's been the biggest factor keeping me from actively selling.
