After a lot of study using the excellent materials from Web Video University, I am convinced the right video editing software is key to success with web video. The right software can reduce or eliminate many problems with the original video more easily and quicker than redoing things. It also lets you mix video from many sources in creative and educational ways. In the end, it will let you publish quality materials.
I spent some time looking around for existing videos on subjects in which I think I might want to work myself. The quality left a lot to be desired. For example, I found two TurboLister (Ebay's listing software) videos where you can not read the text on the screen. A video doesn't add much value when all you can see is a general outline of what a particular screen looked like. Software is available that lets you zoom in on things. That way you can make things large enough to read easily.
In other words the "Standard of Quality" for web video is low. I will not have to be especially skilled to produce better videos than are currently available.
If I was on a really tight budget I think I could do good work with a video editing software program in the $125 range. If I was feeling rich the very best, professional level, programs cost about $1,200. Based on Web Video University recommendations there is a $650 program which I think will do very well. It has a still picture feature which the cheaper software lacks, but which I think will be important to what I want to do. That's why I will try Sony Vegas Pro 9 first.
