Magento Shopping Cart

by Paul

Magento is a free shopping cart system.  What does that mean?  A shopping cart system  is what you need to sell your own products.  It sounds simple, but in reality they get very complex.  Not only are  they complicated to program, they are also complicated to set up.

You have to enter information about all your products, how  you will ship them, how to apply taxes and a host of other set-up issues.

Magento  has a good reputation but the setup is going to be a challange.  There are so many choices to make.

Adding a few PayPal buttons via a WordPress plugin would be easy.  What makes us think mastering a tool like Magento worth while is one installation can provide shopping cart services to many websites.  Magento is the first cart we have seen that natively supports our many small sites approach.

The Magento catalog should let us enter a product once and then show it on as many sites as we want.  When a unique item sells it will automatically be removed from all the sites.

We will start by setting up a simple store at New Mexico Books and expand as we learn the system.
